Faux Wood Window Blinds And Drapes
Published on July 2nd, 2020.
There are different types of faux wood window blinds that you can choose from, to suit your particular taste and requirement. The traditional faux wood window blinds have cords and pulleys to raise and lower the faux wood window blinds. There are cordless systems too, where they can be raised and lowered by lifting or pulling down on the fitting. The system still uses a pulley, but it is hidden from view, making the fittings look neat and elegant. While most systems can be raised or lowered from the bottom, others have a feature where they can also be lowered or raised from the top. Some fittings come with an extra darkening shade which is an extra layer that provides added protection and privacy, making them ideal for use in bathrooms and bedrooms.
While most traditional fittings incorporate vertical faux wood window blinds, there are other variations like roller faux wood window blinds, blackout faux wood window blinds and patio door faux wood window blinds. A number of companies like Hunter Douglas, Levolor and even online stores like Blindsanddrapery.com and Eddiezs.com have a wide collection of fittings that are extremely beautiful.
Drapes
Drapes help bring a room to life. Even the dullest settings can be made to look fresh and enticing with the artistic use of drapes. They provide an aura of elegance that is unmatched with any other form of fittings. They also have a very functional use of allowing or blocking light from the outdoors entering the room. There are a number of draping styles that you can choose from to use in your room according to the room’s basic design.
The standard pinch pleat design is the most traditional style used in drapes. The goblet pinch pleat gets its name from the goblet shaped pinches used in this style. This unique and distinct look can also be used in children’s bedrooms or playrooms. The European pinch pleat provides a formal and elegant look to the style. The Grommet style, as the name suggests, uses grommets where the cloth meets the rod. The ring top style utilizes rings to hang the drapery from the rod. The Tie top has fancy looking ties that hold the drapery to the rod. Similar to this style is the Tab top which uses Tabs for the same purpose. You can choose from any of these styles to install drapes in your room.

Faux Wood Window Blinds
Published on May 26th, 2020.
Faux Wood Window Blinds are an alternative for wood in areas of high humidity or traffic. Their durability make them a good choice for rental homes or areas where they will experience a great deal of wear and tear. Although Faux Wood Window Blinds are usually heavier and have less options than wood blinds, but their low cost and durability make them the ideal choice in many occasions. Plantation shutters and other custom blinds do not usually come in real hardwoods only.
Faux wood slats are made in a smaller range of sizes than traditional wood slats. This alternative material is usually 2″ or 2 1/2″ slats constructed of PVC or a composite of PVC and wood pulp. PVC blinds are very heavy and difficult to lift. The PVC blinds are usually twice as heavy as hardwood. They do not warp, but all that extra weight needs more ladders and strings to hold up. Composite blinds blend PVC and wood pulp for a lighter shade that resists warping. Although these shades are heavier than hardwood blinds, they resist humidity and are extremely durable. Like PVC, composite blinds require more support for the additional weight. Thicker slats can obstruct more view than thinner ones made from wood.
Curved slats provide greater light control for dark rooms and flat slats provide a more uniform look which closely mirrors the look of wood blinds. The standard blind comes with rout holes on the slats for the cords that raise and lower the window covering. These holes will let in a small amount of light even when the blinds are closed. Greater light control can be obtained with routless blinds. Routless Faux Wood Window Blinds are a new take on venetian wood blinds. In routless blinds, the cord is threaded through the edge of the slat to eliminate light penetration. Cloth tapes are also available for the 2 1/2″ Faux Wood Window Blinds. These cloth tapes come in a variety of color for accent and eliminate all light when closed. Cordless blinds made from faux wood give a sleek look.
2 1/2 ” slats provide a clearer view than their 2″ counterparts because fewer slats are required to make the blind. Fewer slats makes the blind lighter and take up less space when drawn up. Slats of 2 inches are more popular because they combine the look of a thicker slat with the smaller footprint of a narrow blind.
Another main selling point for wood alternative blinds is their price. Faux wood costs less than real wood, and they will not warp or crack like wood in areas of extreme temperature or moisture. Because of their second-rate status in the mind of consumers, these blinds do not come in the dizzying array of colors and sizes real blinds do.
When it comes to weight, faux wood can be twice as heavy as their wood counterparts. This makes these blinds harder to raise, lower and level than wood blinds. They do provide the same light control and energy saving as wood blinds.

Cleaning Faux Wood Window Blinds
Published on May 26th, 2020.
With all this information on purchasing the perfect Faux Wood Window Blinds for your home, we need some information on how to keep these blinds in good condition. To continue to enjoy your investment, proper cleaning is required. It may seem simple, but the biggest enemy to Faux Wood Window Blinds is dust. A proper duster is always a must, but lets get into some more preventative measures. No one wants to take all day cleaning their blinds, but if you do not work to keep them clean that is what will happen.
Dust is never your friend. To keep your blinds bright and clean, we need to get rid of that dust. First off is the simple rag or duster. To clean the front of your Faux Wood Window Blinds, angle the slats completely down, and to clean the back, angle them up. This simple maintenance can be done weekly or monthly, as soon as you install your Faux Wood Window Blinds. Feather dusters just spread the dust around your floor. Instead acquire a wool or magnetic duster which pulls the dust instead of scattering it. For a step up the dust bunny ladder, use a vacuum. Just be careful and use the gentler brush extension. Try not to use a shop-vac, or it might slurp up the rout cords. Then go slat by slat to make sure you don’t miss a spot.
If your blinds are in a kitchen or bathroom where smoke or water residue has built up along with the dust you may need a sturdier approach. Or maybe you just never cleaned your Faux Wood Window Blinds, and an inch of dust has piled up. In this case, use a cloth and wood cleaning agent. This agent may be water or a custom chemical from the hardware store, just make sure it is not wax based or it might damage the clear coat sealant around the slats. Heavy-duty kitchen cleaners can corrode wood and wood finishes, so remember, try a damp rag first before you bust out the heavy artillery. Whatever form of cleaner you use, always wipe it dry after so the liquid does not warp the wood.
The longer you wait between cleaning, the worse it is on the life of your Faux Wood Window Blinds. If you have been waiting a long time the only alternative may be to disassemble the blinds for hands-on strip-cleaning. Find an old sheet to lay your blinds on after taking them from the mounting. Use the ground as a back-pressure as you gently but firmly scrub the slats clean. Any cloth material is fine to scrub with, but remember, wax-based cleaners will just trap dust and seal it in!
For a really dirty job, use a soft-bristled paintbrush to get into the grain. Fabric softener will keep the paintbrush from scattering dust. Just be sure to wipe off the dust and cleaner as you go.
Blinds can warp and twist in damp areas, but people in dry climates have their own problems to worry about. If a Faux Wood Window Blind gets too dry, it may crack. To keep it in good condition, use an oil soap to clean and maintain the blind. Evenly wipe the oil into the Faux Wood Window Blinds as you clean.

My house has black framed windows throughout house. What color of blinds suits this type of window? Right now we have white blinds and you see the black window frame through them. Is that look ok or should I find another color? We have wood flooring so I was thinking faux wood blinds or black blinds to match the windows. But black blinds are probably too dark? Want to have the same colored blinds throughout house. So the color of blinds needs to work for kitchen and living room too.

how to remove this type of blind?
Published on December 28th, 2010.
I want to remove some old horizontal plastic blinds. I have bought typical standard 2" faux wood white blinds in their place.
I’ve put up blinds before (where the window had nothing), but this time, I’m finding my major problem is REMOVING the old blinds. I want to remove the whole thing of course, since the new thing I bought come with its own brackets, etc., which are easy to put on and take off.
these blinds don’t appear to have any end-brackets which can unscrew or pull off and then you slide it out – no, this thing is attached to like 3 deathly-tight metal "clasps" is the best way I can describe them.
I’ve pried, twisted, stabbed myself , etc., and good god – any ideas?
Here is the best picture I can take of it. and there is NOTHING (like ‘end-brackets’) at the end of the blinds. Just these things – one at each end, and one in the middle. and they are super super tight.

how do you shorten Designer View faux wood blinds?
Published on December 6th, 2010.
The blinds I bought at Home Depot and had cut down to fit my windows are too long for the windows. Somehow the instructions for shortening the blinds were thrown away. I need to get instructions to shorten the blinds to the length of the windows.
